KELECHI ONWUBIKO

Kelechi Onwubiko is a 1996 Law graduate of the University of Calabar, Nigeria. Admitted to practice in 1998 at the Nigerian Supreme Court, he obtained his Master of Laws Degree (LL.M) from the University of Lagos.

Mr. Onwubiko has had over eight years of active legal practice experience in diverse areas such as Energy, Oil and Gas Law, Information Technology Law, Telecommunications Law, Intellectual Property Law and Company and Commercial Law.


In the recent past, Mr. Onwubiko has worked on the following key briefs, amongst others, for blue-chip companies both within and outside Nigeria:

· Lead Counsel in a $13,000,000 claim by Nicon Insurance Plc against a Canadian firm over an equipment guarantee and supply contract.
· Legal advisory over a Franchise and Product Distribution contract for a major Energy company in South Africa.
· Legal Advisory and Consultancy for Walter Smith Petrolman Oil Ltd. on a Joint Operating Agreement (JOA) over Ibigwe Marginal Field located in Shell Petroleum Dev. Corp’s OML 16.
· Legal Advisory and Consultancy for Ambitel (SL) Ltd. over a telecommunication licence application in Sierra Leone.
· Solicitors and Advisers to GT Insurance Ltd over its 13,000,000,000 ordinary shares private placement.
· Legal Advisory and Consultancy for Citizens Bank Plc over its merger transactions.
· Legal Advisory and Consultancy for Cityscape Ltd over a multi-billion Naira private estate development in Lagos.
· Representative Counsel for Assonet Technologies Ltd in arbitration over an IT contract dispute.
· Legal Advisory and Consultancy for Mabon Nigeria Ltd. over an off-shore geophysical survey dispute in US and Nigerian courts.
· Lead Counsel in several litigations covering claims by Banks, Insurance companies and Energy firms.
· Legal Advisory for the Association of Pension Funds of Nigeria and drafting and presentation of its Charter Bill before the National Assembly.

Mr. Onwubiko has also acquired extensive experience in providing wholistic legal advisory covering tax, labour, immigration and HSE as well as obtaining statutory approvals for foreign investments in areas such as telecommunication,
energy, property development, pharmaceuticals, procurements and manufacturing.

Mr. Onwubiko is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association, the International Bar Association, the Nigerian Economic Summit Group, the Chartered Pensions Practitioners of Nigeria and TakingITGlobal. He has written extensively on diverse issues of law and has participated in several conferences and seminars both within and outside Nigeria.
